The Land Cover Topic Centre
In the Global Land Cover Network framework, FAO and UNEP set up in Rome and in Florence a Land Cover Topic Centre, to provide updated information, technical support, products (LCCS, GEOVIS and MAP software) in the field of land cover mapping.

 | GLCN - Innovation in Land Cover Mapping |
 In response to the high demand of natural resource information to meet multi-user requirements, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) have jointly developed the Global Land Cover Network - GLCN initiative.

| Towards LCCS 3: LCCS as a formal language |
 Starting from an empirical observation of the current LCCS software, Marco Di Costanzo and Luca Ongaro from IAO propose a concept paper aimed to the formalization for the LCCS system as a basis for the the design of the architecture of a new LCCS software implementation.

| LCCS NEW RELEASE |
The new LCCS v 2.4.5 release is now available. In this new release a bug regarding a classifier, for which a patch was previously provided, has been fixed.
Please download LCCS v 2.4.5 from the download area, LCCS/software, or from LCCS v 2.4.5

| A NEW TOOL NOW AVAILABLE |
 A new tool called "LEGEND HELP" has been prepared to help in legend interpretation.
This tool will be available for several LCCS-mapped countries.
Now available the "TANZANIA LEGEND HELP"
Also available the "SUDAN LEGEND HELP"
Also available the "RWANDA LEGEND HELP"
Also available the "KENYA LEGEND HELP"
Also available the "DR CONGO LEGEND HELP"
Also available the "BURUNDI LEGEND HELP".
Also available the "ERITREA LEGEND HELP".
Also available the "EGYPT LEGEND HELP".
The legend help tool is a set of slides (in powerpoint format) which aims at improving the understanding of the LCCS legend.
It includes a set of photographs linked to the relative satellite image for the most important legend classes, plus an extended explanation of the the used classifiers.
